    Description
Zoological study of the Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) the freshwater reptile native to South-East Asia. The animal is shown dissected from jaw to anus exposing the internal organs. The illustration has five details of the major organs and vessels: the heart trachea, spleen and kidney.

The accompanying text reads: ‘le figure represente assez la disposition des parties internes de cét animal, telles qu'elles parurent dés qu'il fut ouvert.’ [the figure shows the observable internal parts of the animal, as it appeared when opened].

Plate 2 from the book Observations physiques et mathematiques, pour servir a l'histoire naturelle & a la perfection de l'astronomie & de la geographie, envoyees de Siam...by Pere Gouye (Paris, 1688). The description of the Siamese crocodile was facilitated by Constantine Phaulkon or Falcon (1647-1688) prime minister to the Siamese King.
