Description
Half-length portrait of George Yonge, turned to the left as viewed and looking back at viewer. He wears frockcoat with braided button holes, waist coat, white tie, and sash. Badge with eight points pinned to left hand breast of coat. Hearaldic badge of boar and griffin supporters, helmet, and boar crest.
Inscribed ‘Mather Brown pinxt. E.Scott sculpt, Engraver to the Duke of York & Prince Edward. The Right Honorable Sr. George Yonge Bt, Secretary at War, Knight of the Bath. One of his Majestys Most Honorable Privy Council. F.R.S. F.A.S & M.P. TRIA UN A IN UNO. FOBTITER ET PRUDENTES. Published May 1 1790 by S W Fores No3 Piccadilly’ and pencilled ‘FRS 1784’.
Sir George Yonge was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1784.
