Description
Half-length portrait of Richard Mead, turned to the left as viewed and looking out to viewer. He wears dark overcoat with long lace trimmed necktie. In an oval frame. Illustration below portrait showing right hand holding lens, sun ray, and [snakes within?] bowl.
Inscribed ‘J Pass Sc. Dr. MEAD. Engraved for the Encyclopadia Londinensis 1816.’ and pencilled ‘1703’.
Richard Mead was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1703.
