    Description
    Mycological study of Caprinus comatus, commonly known as the shaggy ink cap or shaggy mane (here the Maned agaric).

    Plate at pp.200/201 of the paper ‘Illustrations of the edible funguses of Herefordshire’, by H.G.Bull, Transactions of the Woolhope Naturalists’ Field Club, 1868 (Times Office, Hereford, 1869) pp.196-203.

    The accompanying text states that: ‘It is common throughout the summer and autumn months on road-sides, pastures and waste places. It is extremely variable in size: the illustration given is rather smaller than the average size.’

    With the monogram of the Woolhope Naturalists’ Field Club. Inscribed below: ‘Caprinus comatus. The Maned Agararic’.
