Description
Half-length portrait of Thomas Telford seated and turned slightly to the right as viewed, looking back to viewer. He wears regency-style clothing of high collared jacket, shirt and cravat, his hair is short and curled. An aqueduct or bridge can be seen in the background, right hand side as viewed.
Inscribed ‘Painted & Engraved by Hy. Meyer. Thomas Telford Esq. F.R.S. L&E. PRESIDENT OF THE INSTITUTION OF CIVIL ENGINEERS. Thos. Telford’ and pencilled ‘1827’.
Thomas Telford was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1827.
