Description
Head and shoulders portrait of William Tempest turned to the left as viewed with head turned back to viewer. He wears shoulders length hair with receding hairline and is dressed in jacket with shirt and cravat.
Inscribed on separate paper mounted below ‘Painted & etched by B. Wilson. William Tempest. F.R.S. AEt.70. M.R’ and pencilled 1712’.
William Tempest was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1712.
