Description
Portrait of Elias Ashmole in the style of a bust on a pedestal with symbol of the twin constellation of Gemini and set in an alcove. He wears armour with collar and sash draped over shoulders.
Inscribed ‘Faithorne del. T. Priscott, sculp. ELIAS ASHMOLE Windsor Herald Born 1616 Died 18 May 1692. Pub, by W. Smith 23 Lisle Street, Leicester Sqe’ with facsimile signature and pencilled ‘1663’.
Elias Ashmole was an original Fellow of the Royal Society, elected in 1661.
