    Inscribed ‘From a Photo by J Matall Junr. JAMES GLAISHER, F.R.S., F.R.A.S. First President of the Royal Microscopical Society. 1865-6, 1867-8.’

    James Glaisher (1809-1903), astronomer and meteorologist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1849
