Description
Head and shoulders portrait of Ashton Lever in right profile. He wears buckled wig with queue and is dressed in jacket, waistcoat, shirt and necktie. In an oval frame surmounted with swaged fabric and a natural history vignette below showing an ostrich, peacock and monkey.
Inscribed ‘EUROPEAN MAGAZINE. W. Angus delt et sculpt [?] Sir ASHTON LEVER. Published Septr. 1.1784 J. Sewell, Cornhill.’ Pencilled ‘1773’ lower left hand corner.
