Half-length portrait of Isaac Newton within an oval frame. Engraving based on the oil painting by Godfrey Kneller now in the National Portrait Gallery, here reversed horizontally. Newton’s features have been sharpened compared to the original painting, although he is shown in the same wig, loose robe and open shirt.

Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727), British natural philosopher, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1672, he served as its President from 1703 to 1727.
