Side view of a fish described by Funnell as being “14 inches long, and about 2 inches deep; with a very sharp Sett of Teeth, a very curious sparkling Eye, a long extended Mouth, a monstrous high Fin on his Back…”

William Funnell (active early 18th century) sailor and explorer, acted as Mate aboard the vessel St George, captained by William Dampier (1651-1715).
