    Description
Ornithological study of two South American birds: figure 1 the Great curassow Crax rubra and figure 2 the Helmeted curassow Pauxi pauxi.

Plate 295 from chapter 85 of Gleanings of natural history, exhibiting figures of quadrupeds, birds, insects, plants, &c..., by George Edwards, volume 2 (London, for the author, 1760). The author describes the birds within the text: “These birds are greatly reduced below their natural size, which is nearly that of a Hen Turkey. They are drawn from life; the Curasso-Bird, fig.1 by myself; and the Cushew-Bird, fig.2, by a Gentleman in the service of his Grace the Duke of Portland.”

The plate is inscribed: “Fig.1 the Mituporanga of Marggravius. Fig.2 the Pauxi of Nieremberg, Drawn from Life.” A second, mirrored inscription reads: “George Edwards Sculp May 1 1758..”
