Description
Zoological study of the Desert warthog Phacochoerus aethiopicus in open countryside in Africa. A small hut and palm trees are visible behind.
Plate 2 from the book Miscellanea zoologica, quibus novae imprimis atque obscurae animalium species describuntur et observationibus iconibusque illustrantur by P S Pallas (The Hague, 1766). An explanation to the plate appears in Latin: “Aper ethiopicus, demisso capite adstans. Molem capitis monstrosam icon non ad amussim exprimit. Oculos quaque paulo propiores inter se collocare debuisset pictor.”
