    Description
Zoological study of a Greater spear-nosed bat Phyllostomus hastatus, native to Central and South America. The main figure is shown resting on a flat rock outcrop. A second bat in flight appears behind.

Plate 5 from the book Miscellanea zoologica, quibus novae imprimis atque obscurae animalium species describuntur et observationibus iconibusque illustrantur by P S Pallas (The Hague, 1766). An explanation to the plate appears in Latin: “Vespertilio soricinus alis compositis reptabundus, naturali paulo minor. Adjecta est adumbration volitantis, ut membranae inter femora figura appareat.”
