Description
Zoological study of the Red giant flying squirrel Petaurista petaurista. Two animals are shown clinging to a tree stump: one a rear full body study, the other showing the Asian mammal’s head with its mouth open, exposing the teeth. A landscape is shown behind.
Plate 6 from the book Miscellanea zoologica, quibus novae imprimis atque obscurae animalium species describuntur et observationibus iconibusque illustrantur by P S Pallas (The Hague, 1766). An explanation to the plate appears in Latin: “Sciurus petaurista fig. 1 a dorso inspectus, prominulumque caput fig. 2 in quo dentes apparent.”
Inscribed above “Tab. VI.”, and below “A. Schouman del. R Muys Sc.”
