Description
Ornithological studies of a White-plumed Antbird Pithys albifrons. Above, in flight, a Rufous-crested Coquette Lophornis delattrei.
Plate 344 from chapter 134 of Gleanings of natural history, exhibiting figures of quadrupeds, birds, insects, plants, &c..., by George Edwards, volume 3 (London, for the author, 1764). The author describes the birds within the text: “These Birds are both drawn on the plate of their natural bigness...both part of the prize taken by the now Earl of Ferrers, F.R.S. and are preserved in his collection. They are natives of Guinea and Terra Firma in South America...”
The plate is inscribed: “The White faced Manakin, and the Ruby crested Huming Bird, boath from the West Indies, drawn from Life of their natural bigness, by G.Edwards. Feb 24 1761.”
