Description
Four figures showing osteoma (bony deposits) in the membranes surrounding the human brain. Figure 1 Dura mater with deposits of bone. Figure 2 Pia mater with bony matter. Figure 3 Dura mater “with a considerable portion of bony matter”. Figure 4 Two abscesses in the lateral sinuses of the dura mater.
The author states in accompanying text that: “This plate contains representations of osteoma, or depositions of bony matter, in the membranes of the brain, both the dura and pia mater; and also a very unusual occurrence, an abscess of the lateral sinuses of the dura mater.”
Plate 5 from the monograph The morbid anatomy of the human brain; being illustrations of the most frequent and important organic diseases to which that viscus is subject, by Robert Hooper (London, Longman, Rees..., 1826). Inscribed: “PLATE V. J.Howship, delt. J.Wedgewood sculpt. OSSIFICATION OF THE DURA AND PIA MATER and ABCESS OF THE LATERAL SINUSES. Published by Dr. Hooper. Jany.1826.”
