Description
Zoological studies of the blue lizard, referred to by the author as Lacerta muralis coerulea now Podarcis sicula coerulea native to the Faraglioni Rocks on the island of Capri, Italy. Figure 1 the male lizard in summer colouration. Figure 2 female lizard. Figure 3 male lizard viewed from beneath.

The plate is inscribed: “Taf. 1. Gez, v. A.Eimer. Lith Anst. v. J.G.Bach, Leipzig. Lacerta muralis coerulea. (1.Männchen im Sommerkleide. 2. Weibchen. 3. Männchen.“
Theodor Eimer (1843-1898) was Professor of Zoology at the University of Tubingen and used studies of these lizards to discuss orthogenesis in evolutionary theory. He married Anna Luteroth (b.1851) who is credited on the plate ‘Gezeichnet’ (subscribed).
