Description
Marine zoiological study of the Ceylon razor-shell Solen ceylonensis, found in the Red Sea and western Indian Ocean.
Plate 7 from The zoological miscellany; being a description of new, or interesting animals, by William Elford Leach, volume 1 (London, 1815). The author describes the shell within the text: “Inhabits Ceylon, where it seems not to be an uncommon species...”
The plate is inscribed: “Drawn Engraved & Published by R. P. Nodder Feby.1814.”
William Elford Leach (1790-1836) British naturalist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1816.
