Description
Marine zoological study of the invertebrate Ammothea carolinensis found in the Antarctic Ocean, with one detail.
Plate 13 from The zoological miscellany; being a description of new, or interesting animals, by William Elford Leach, volume 1 (London, 1815). The author describes the creature within the text: “For this singular species, which constitutes a new genus, I am indebted to Mr. Latham of Compton-street, who received two specimens from South Carolina, which were caught on an anchor that had been recently drawn from the bottom of the sea.”
The plate is inscribed: “Drawn Engraved & Published by R. Nodder.”
William Elford Leach (1790-1836) British naturalist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1816.
