Entomological studies of a six-spotted shieldbug, identified by the author as Scutellera sex-maculata “Red shining with silver...Inhabits New Caledonia.”
Plate 14 from The zoological miscellany; being a description of new, or interesting animals, by William Elford Leach, volume 1 (London, 1815). The author describes the insect within the text: “Red shining with silver...Inhabits New Caledonia.”
The plate is inscribed: “Drawn Engraved & Published by R. P. Nodder March 1814.”
William Elford Leach (1790-1836) British naturalist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1816.
