    Description
    Ornithological study of the Slaty antshrike Thamnophilus punctatus native to South America. Side view, posed on a tree branch.

    Plate 17 from The zoological miscellany; being a description of new, or interesting animals, by William Elford Leach, volume 1 (London, 1815). The author describes the bird within the text: “Our figure of this pretty bird is taken from the original specimen described by Dr. Latham, and which is preserved in the British Museum. It has the appearance of being a young bird...”

    The plate is inscribed: “Drawn Engraved & Published by R. P. Nodder 1814.”

    William Elford Leach (1790-1836) British naturalist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1816.
