Description
Entomological studies of the gumleaf grasshopper Goniaea australasiae. The top figure is a female insect, the lower figure a male. Native to Australia.
Plate 24 from The zoological miscellany; being a description of new, or interesting animals, by William Elford Leach, volume 1 (London, 1815). The author describes the insect within the text: “The annexed plate represents the male and female of this curious insect, which is extremely common in New Holland.”
The plate is inscribed: “Drawn Engraved & Published by R. P. Nodder. Tavistock Street. London.”
William Elford Leach (1790-1836) British naturalist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1816.
