Description
Half length portrait of Joseph Bancroft Reade seated in front of a table upon which rests a book with a clasp and upon a glass laboratory flask and lenses [?] held in Bancroft’s left hand. What may be a quill held in the right hand is just visible at the lower edge of the photograph. Bancroft wears a dark suit and white shirt with cravat; a lens is worn by chain around his neck.
Inscribed in pencil lower left “The Rev. J.B.Reade FRS” and lower right “1838”
