    Figure 1 on this plate illustrates pp.65-68, ‘An Account of an Experiment, confirming the Production of Light by the Effluvia of one Glass falling on another’. Figures 2-5 illustrate section I, experiments I-V (pp.5-16), ‘An Account of several Experiments on the Mercurial Phosphorus’.

    Plate III from Physico-mechanical experiments on various subjects, by Francis Hauksbee (London, 1709), presented to the Royal Society by the author on 26 October 1709.

    Hauksbee (ca.1660 – 1713) was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1705, and was the Society’s Curator of Experiments from 1703 to 1713.

    The Royal Society is in possession of a modern replica of the Hauksbee apparatus depicted in this plate.
