Description
Detail of two figures showing forms of electrical arcs between a primary and receiving conducting spheres: figure 1 shows a branched ‘lighting’ arc; figure 2 a sinuous powered by the electrostatic generator and associated conducting machinery designed by John Cuthbertson (bap.1743-d.1821) for Martin van Marum and installed at Teyler’s Museum at Haarlem in the Netherlands.
Plate 3 from Beschryving eene ongemeen groote electrizeer-machine geplaatst in Teyler’s Museum...by Martinus van Marum (Haarlemn, 1785).
The plate is inscribed upper right: ‘Pl. III’; and below “C.H.Koning Fecit.
Martin van Marum was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1798.
