Three-quarter length studio portrait of C.V.Raman leaning slightly with his right elbow resting upon a chair back, the left arm crooked with hand on hip.
The cabinet-sized print is pasted on the inner front board of the book Experimental investigations on the maintenance of vibrations, by C.V.Raman (Calcutta, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, 1912). This volume was a presentation copy from the author to Sir Thomas Little Heath FRS (1861-1940).
Inscribed below: “A Portrait by Bourne & Shepherd, India.” Signed: “Yours truly C.V.Raman”.
Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1924.
