Description
Spectroscope constructed by Spencer, Browning and Company, instrument-makers of London, for John Peter Gassiot.
Unpublished plate 1 illustration from the manuscript version of the paper “On spectrum analysis with a description of a large spectroscope having nine prisms and achromatic telescopes of two feet focal length” by John Peter Gassiot. This was abstracted in Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, vol.12 (1862-1863), pp.536-538.
A printed stamp has been pasted to the reverse: “Photographed BY F.M.GOOD 47, MINORIES, London.”
John Peter Gassiot (1797-1877), British electrician, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1840.
