Unpublished illustrations, figures from the manuscript version of the paper “The nervous system of Lumbricus terrestris” by J. Lockhart Clarke, the text abstracted in Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, vol.8 (1856-1857), pp.343-351.
The sketches are inscribed in ink above: ‘Pigment laminae & masses’; and below ‘Drawn from nature by the Author’.
Jacob Augustus Lockhart Clarke (1817-1880) was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1854.
