    Unpublished illustrations, figures (pencilled ‘Fig.9’) from the manuscript version of the paper “The nervous system of Lumbricus terrestris” by J. Lockhart Clarke, the text abstracted in Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, vol.8 (1856-1857), pp.343-351.

    The sketch is inscribed in ink above: ‘Minute ganglia, cell and fibres from the pharyngeal plexus’; and below ‘Drawn from nature by the Author’. Each inset figure has an individual caption or a note of the magnification used.

    Jacob Augustus Lockhart Clarke (1817-1880) was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1854.
