Unpublished illustrations, two details (pencilled ‘Fig.10’) from the manuscript version of the paper “The nervous system of Lumbricus terrestris” by J. Lockhart Clarke, the text abstracted in Proceedings of the Royal Society of London, vol.8 (1856-1857), pp.343-351.
The sketch is inscribed in ink above: ‘Anterior Part of Subventral Chain of Ganglia’; and below ‘Drawn from nature by the author’. The two inset figures are inscribed: ‘under surface’ and ‘upper surface’ respectively.
Jacob Augustus Lockhart Clarke (1817-1880) was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1854.
