Diagram showing the main anatomical features of the Tridacna, a giant clam from the Pacific Ocean. Showing the circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems.
This bivalve mollusc was described by the author aboard HMS Herald in March 1857 as the vessel was engaged in surveying work in the south-western Pacific. The author, John Denis Macdonald was assistant surgeon on the ship.
