    Description
    Campsite at Cap Traill [Kapp Traill] on the southeast coast of Jan Mayen. A tent has been pitched bedside a natural rock shelter valley and an overturned ship’s boat completes the encampment. Two expedition members are visible, one seated and cradling a rifle. Image from the Austro-Hungarian Arctic Expedition on Jan Mayen the volcanic island of Norway. The expedition was part of the first International Polar Year, 1882-1883.
