    Description
    Six figures of lighthouses and illumination of the ancient world. Figure 1 structure at Sigeum on the Hellespont, supposedly the site of the first lighthouse. Figure 2 ancient lighthouse at Bologna described by [Bernard de?] Montfaucon. Figure 3 medallion showing the construction of ancient lighthouses. Figure 4 ancient tower mentioned by Montfaucon. Figures 5-6 ancient lighthouse erected in 1350 at Sant’ Erasmo on the lagoon at Venice and recently demolished.

    Not signed. The plate has an accompanying descriptive key.

    Giovanni Aldini (1762-1834) Italian physicist, is best-known for his experiments in galvanism but was also a pioneer in the field of lighthouse engineering.
