This, the third Eddystone lighthouse, was designed and built by the British civil engineer John Smeaton FRS (1724-1792). It was sited on the Eddystone Rocks off the coast of Dorset in England and its lamp was first illuminated in 1759.

Plate 3 from Saggio di osservazioni sui mezzi atti a migliorare la construzione e l'illuminazione dei Faro con appendice sull' illuminazione dei Fari col gas by Giovanni Aldini (Milan, 1823).

Not signed. The plate has an accompanying descriptive key. With two scales, metric and feet.
