Four human-made flint tools from the cave excavations at Kent’s Cavern Torquay, England.
Extra original illustration to the article “On photographing objects for book illustrations”, by A R Hunt.
The printed text appears within a larger set of collected papers written by Hunt 1873-1889 and owned by his schoolfellow John William Strutt (1842-1919) 3rd Baron Rayleigh, a President of the Royal Society. The photograph has an inscription in ink, verso: “Flint implements from Kent’s Cavern (Cave earth)”.
Arthur Roope Hunt was a Fellow of the Geological Society and the Linnean Society. He helped in the Torquay excavations led by William Pengelly FRS (1812-1894).
