Informal portrait of F.M.R.Walshe seated in a hospital room with a radiator and door behind.
The image is inscribed in pencil top left: “R,M.O. Queen Square 1915”. Similar information appears (with a variant date) in pencil and ink verso: “1914 R.M.O. Queen Square.” Originally sellotaped to the inside front cover of volume 1 of Walshe’s collected papers in the Royal Society’s Fellows’ Works collection.
Sir Francis Martin Rouse Walshe (1885-1973) was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1946. He was House Physician, then Resident Medical Officer at the National Hospital, Queen Square, London until he joined the R.A.M.C. in 1915.
