Description
Refrigerated water baths for penicillin fermentation tanks. Dr Rod Sirivejkul is posed by the bench unit showing the belt-driven fan and filtered air supply, part of a pilot plant for penicillin manufacture constructed by Sirivejkul in Bangkok, Thailand.
Captioned verso in ink: “fermentation tank 30 litres showing propeller and air supply (under construction).”
Major Rod Sirivejkul was Chief of the Antibiotic Division, Army Medical Department of Siam (Thailand) based in Bangkok. He corresponded with Sir Howard Florey on penicillin supply to Siam in the period 1951-1959.
