Description
Steam autoclave for laboratory sterilization mounted on a lorry. Dr Rod Sirivejkul is posed loading laboratory glassware into the machine, which was used in a pilot plant for penicillin manufacture constructed by Sirivejkul in Bangkok, Thailand.
Captioned verso in ink: “Sterilizer (autoclave) for surface culture works.”
Major Rod Sirivejkul was Chief of the Antibiotic Division, Army Medical Department of Siam (Thailand) based in Bangkok. He corresponded with Sir Howard Florey on penicillin supply to Siam in the period 1951-1959.
