Inscribed above each figure in ink: ‘Diagram III. Changes of position of the common chord of the Tonic’; ‘Diagram IIII. Changes of position of the common chord of the Dominant’; and ‘Diagram V. Changes of position of the common chord of the Subdominant’.
Sir John Denis Macdonald was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1859.
