    Three-quarter length seated portraits of (left to right): Sir James Alfred Ewing, Sir Charles Algernon Parsons and Sir Dugald Clerk. All are dressed in evening wear and appear against a neutral, sheeted background.

    The reverse has a paper label inscribed in ink with the names of the sitters and the date, ‘1910’. With a pencil inscriptions centre: ‘5622/2 Portrait Brown’.

    Sir (James) Alfred Ewing was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1887.
    Sir Charles Algernon Parsons was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1898.
    Sir Dugald Clerk was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1908.
