Head and shoulders portrait of Alexander Macleay, turned to the right as viewed, eyes looking directly to the viewer, he wears a regency-style coat, high white collar and cravat.
Inscribed: “Engraved by Chas.Fox. ALEXANDER MACLEAY, ESQ: F.R.S. Secretary of the LiNnean Society, Member of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Sweden, &c. FROM A PORTRAIT PAINTED BY SIR THOS. LAWRENCE, FOR THE LINNEAN SOCIETY OF LONDON.”
Alexander Macleay was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1809.
