Description
Three quarter length portrait of Francis Maseres, turned to the left as viewed and seated in an armchair. He wears a regency-style coat and shirt with ruffled sleeves.
Inscribed ‘FRANCIS MASERES Esqr.M.A. F.R.S. Cursitor Baron of the Exchequer. AEtat 83’ and pencilled ‘1771’.
An identical print owned by the National Portrait Gallery has been dated 1815 (NPG D38304).
Frances Maseres was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1771.
