Description
Head and shoulders portrait of Matthew Maty, turned to the right and looking away from viewer, wearing a cap. In circular frame.
Inscribed ‘F. Bartolozzi sculp. MATHEW MATY M.D. Born May 17.1718, Died August 2.1776.’ beneath portrait and ‘One hundred copies only were struck off. Munn’s Roll of the R.C.P, II, 266-267’ in pencil (verso).
Matthew Maty was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1751, he was Foreign Secretary from 1762 to 1766 and Secretary from 1765 to 1776.
