    Head and shoulders portrait of Matthew Maty, turned to the right and looking away from viewer, wearing a cap. In oval frame.

    Inscribed ‘Ridley SC, MATTHEW MATY M.D. Born May 17.1718. Died Aug 2.1776’ and pencilled ‘1751’.

    Matthew Maty was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1751, he was Foreign Secretary from 1762 to 1766 and Secretary from 1765 to 1776.
