Head and shoulders portrait of Robert Nelson, turned to the right looking straight at viewer. He wears robes, cravat, and wig. In an oval frame on a pedestal.
Inscribed ‘G. Kneller Eques pinx 1700. M.V. de Gucht Sculp. ROBERTUS NELSON Armiger. Ob:Jan 16.1714 Et.58.’ and pencilled ‘3.182, 1680, and 1/-' on paper support.
Robert Nelson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1680.
