    Three quarter length portrait of John Rickman, seated facing forward and looking off to right. He wears high collared coat with white cravat and holds quill in left hand. Right arm rests on desk with parchment, inkwell, and pocket watch.

    Inscribed ‘S.Lane pinxit 1831. Printed by Graf & Soret. JOHN RICKMAN ESQR, CLERK OF THE HOUSE OF COMMONS’ and pencilled ‘1815’.

    John Rickman was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1815.
