Head and shoulders portrait of John Wallis, turned to the right as views and looking straight at viewer. He wears buttoned jacket, falling collar, robe, and cap. In an oval frame of laurel sprigs.
Inscribed ‘G.B. Cipriani Del. Basire Sc 1791. JOHN WALLIS D.D.’ and pencilled ‘1663’.
John Wallis was an original Fellow of the Royal Society, elected in 1663.
