Half-length portrait of Benjamin West, seated and turned to the right as viewed and looking out to viewer. He wears buttoned collarless jacket with high collared shirt, cravat, and wig tied at the back with a bow. Draped curtain in the background with view of Somerset House [?] in the bottom right hand corner.
Inscribed ‘Benjn. West Esqr, P.R.A. pinxt. T. Holloway sculpt. BENJAMIN WEST ESQR. President of the Royal Academy and Historical Painter to his Majesty’.
Benjamin West was not a Fellow of the Royal Society, he was president of the Royal Academy and historical painter to George III.
