Head and shoulders portrait of William Whewell, turned slightly to the right as viewed and looking straight at viewer. He wears high collared shirt and jacket with waistcoat and dark cravat.
Inscribed ‘E.U.Eddis. delt1836. printed by Graf & Soret. REVD. WM. WHEWELL. M.A. F.R.S. & c&c’ and pencilled ‘1820’.
Horizontal tear through the centre of the portrait.
William Whewell was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1820, he was Vice President from 1835 to 1836 and 1858 to 1860.
